Tuesday- (Created & Fallen) Devotion

Tuesday—Genesis 1:24-31

Key Verse: “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’” Genesis 1:26

Yesterday we read that God created a habitat. I should say habitats, because He created a world that could sustain thousands of unique and amazing creatures. And he didn’t make a separate planet for each species of creature. No, he chose to create one, big, beautiful earth where everything can live and thrive.

Today we are reading about the lifeforms He decided to put in the habitat. First he made all the animals and creepy crawlers. He put them where He knew they would thrive and live happy lives. But He saved the best for last. The jewel of all His hard work: humankind. In our key verse (above) God said that we are created in His image, in His likeness. What does that mean? I think that it means that we were created to have knowledge of God, to understand emotions, to desire companionship. That’s why God created humankind…to have a relationship with us. It is really an amazing realization if you think about it.

God desires us. He loves us, created us. Jumping ahead to Psalm 139:14 (NIV), it says “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Keep this verse in mind as we read the story of the first persons ever created in tomorrow’s reading. 🙂

I am so looking forward to it!
